Garlic Naan

Garlic Naan

I was making a Chicken Curry one weekend and had a craving for crispy and warm homemade Naan Bread to go with it. Now your average kitchen doesn't have a Tandoor, so I thought I might as well give up on the idea. However, browsing the internet I found a recipe for oven-baked Naan Bread assuring me that it was as good as the real deal.  So thank you Amateur Chef (link at the bottom) for the recipe - it turned out perfect! Now that I have tried this, I will be trying so many other combinations.

Recipe

Garlic Naan

SERVES: 2      PREP TIME: 1.5 HOURS       COOKING TIME: 10 MINS

Ingredients:
150 ml warm water
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of dry active yeast
250g plain flour
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (I used Rapeseed oil)
4 cloves garlic minced
25g butter
Coriander for garnish

Method:
1) In a big bowl whisk together the warm water, yeast and sugar

2) Leave for 15 mins and you will notice it starts to foam on top

3) In another bowl mix the flour, salt and oil together with the yeast mixture

4) Add half of your minced garlic to this mix

5) Mix together and knead on a floured surface

6) Leave in bowl and cover for 1 1/2 hours in a warm place till it doubles in size

7) Put the oven on full

8) Knead the dough on a floured surface again and break into 2 balls

9) Roll them out. Combine the butter with the rest of the garlic and spread over the top of each of the naans

10) Put in the oven for 7-9 mins or till cooked

Try it yourself
